Notes: This vid was made for the (awesome!) Sexuality vidshow at this year's Vividcon, and I'm so glad (the super very awesome!) [info]geekturnedvamp not only requested a Seeker vid from me, but was totally supportive of my "Doll Parts but more fucked up" idea.

I was really interested in taking this (quite terrifying) masculine song and flipping it so that it applies to the women of LotS. I was especially eager to see what these (wtf seriously disturbed) lyrics would bring out in Kahlan, because it's always fun to really take a look at what is happening in this show, you know, beneath all the sparkly hearts and heartponies. And of course there are the boys. What happens when the lyrics are switched back to their original meaning? Can Richard-The-Very-Speshul-Rahl master his inner RAEG or will his thing rise up in him?! And let's not forget to mention how Mr. Darken Rahl likes to entertain himself. So there certainly is Stuff To Think About. I'll stop blathering on about it and let you do just that.

[It's interesting to note that after Vividcon I was really curious to see a female version of On the Prowl because an image of a woman being tortured means something entirely different from the same image of a man being tortured. I wanted to see the meaning change right there in front of me. And then it was brought to my attention that Deeper and Deeper did that thing and then that other thing and...oh snap.]

Holy shit.

I seriously need to rewatch this when I'm not exhausted so I can give you more constructive feedback but HOLY SHIT WOMAN! For a show that was on at 5 pm on Sat afternoons there was a crapton of sex/kink in it.

I wanted to point out that I found it terribly interesting that when it's Kahlan's part of this vid, she is physically violent, not really confessor-violent. Does that make sense?

Also, if I haven't told you before, I adore "Doll Parts."

YES! One of the very first thoughts I had for this vid was the entire beginning of the Kahlan section, culminating on the lyric "You know that I like it /When you put up a fight," which for me recalled some of the early S1 convos in fandom when we all used to love Kahlan's DEATH STARE when she slit the throats of the various D'Haran soldiers. It was really interesting to play up the blood lust of the Confessors coming right after the Mord'Sith, so I'm thrilled you noticed it. \o/

You know, I've never watched Seeker (bar half the pilot) and I don't care because that was stunning. Is there a prettier show in the universe? I love that there was lots of Craig Parker in there, because I went to school with him. But that's neither here nor there... I enjoyed the hell out of this as a visual feast. Fab editing, really cool song choice. Awesome.

Ooooooh...this is fabulous. I love the progression from mord sith to confessors, from DR to Richard - it makes the whole thing into a kind of narrative, where Richard is corrupted by his power and the heady world of violent sexuality he's been plunged into.

It also makes me miss LoTS like crazy *tear*

You weren't kidding! Wow. That song is just, um WTF WHY DOES THAT SONG EXIST? Sorry—I just find the music very disturbing. It makes the show seem a lot darker, a little more than it actually is IMO—it makes me think of the books instead, which is not a pleasant thing. It was especially creepy to see the transition from the girls to the boys (well, Darken).

But despite being disturbed and wanting to go "It's not *quite* that fucked up!", it's definitely a good take on the darkness in the kink.

Don't worry, you're not the first to admit this. I guess what I've stumbled upon is the formula for the show, which is the books + heartponies = show. But when you subtract the much needed fluffy heartponies you just end up with the screwiness of the books. For me it was an interesting thing to discover through this vid (since I hate the books but also hate fluff). Then again who am I kidding? I'd be vidding the sinister side of SpongeBob if I had the chance. ;)

Oh man! So great and thought-provoking! I really enjoyed Denna and Kahlan's parts because they were over the "I want your love" chorus and you showed how the Mord Sith and Confessors both 'steal' men's love either through torture or Confession. Then with Rahl's part it seemed as if he had all these women all locked up in different rooms and he just walked from watching Kahlan being tortured to torturing Cara and Denna.

Wow, when watching the show it's not as explicit but here you've really dissected the troublesome power/gender/sex politics that lie beneath this Disney show. I think you did an amazing job, because it's not just matching up clips with the song, but the way you blended scenes together to emphasize the visual parallels. Fantastic job!

Oh *wow*. This is ridiculously stunning. And disturbing, but my brain sort of ignores that in the face of the gorgeousness. :D

The way you've used every little twist in the song, and the impact of all that added external movement (the way Richard's screaming close-up vibrated, omg). It's literally breathtaking. :} I didn't get to see it at the con, and I only pulled out my DVDs, like, yesterday, but I did it to finally check this one out, since I'd seen so many wonderful things said about it. It was everything they said and more! \o/

One of my first thoughts after my first watch, was that this felt so much like the Richard that's in the books (from the parts I've read). Plotwise they only seem to barely dabble in that level of fucked-up, but this vid embraces it and fills in allll the blanks. I have a feeling Goodkind would highly approve. *g*

And for specifics, I love love love the transition from the women to the Sisters of the Dark to the Keeper to Rahl. Amazing stuff. And that long shot of the glowing sword being unsheathed that you kept coming back to at the end--perfect blend of beautiful and terrifying.
