Summary: Run for your life, Alex Drake. The menfolk are out to getcha.


Notes: I've been jonesing to do another mash-up vid for quite some time now, but finding the right song can be a tedious process. Then I listened to "Black Beatles," a crazyass mash-up of the Beatles, Ludacris, Kelis and other friends, but there was totally a moment of fandomy attraction. These lyrics meant only one thing: "Well I'd rather see you dead, little girl, than to be with another man." Hello, Ashes to Ashes vid!

After some trimming, some pasting, and lots of glitter, I had a cut of the song that was just creepishly right for a vid. The basic concept breaks down to the thought of how all the men in Alex's life are out to get her in some way or another. And yes, that includes Sam, because he was the initial catalyst to her predicament. If it weren't for Sam, she'd never be in Gene's world. So each section of the song is devoted to one of these men, Sam, Leyton, Gene, Tim, and then finally the only female voice present is dear Alex herself. Poor girl.

I want to be able to cut like that!!! What made it even better is that I know that mashup *lol* fantastic. That clip at 1.15, the clown lying down and pulling the sheet up, I don't remember it, was it in a promo or did you manip it yourself?

Nope, I wish I was responsible for it. But it was actually in the previouslies of episode 8. A lot of great material comes from the previouslies. It's very interesting how they use alternate takes or shots that never got into the show for those. I had to do way too much digging before I remembered that what I really needed wasn't even IN the episodes, lol.

Heavens, I forgot how much I missed this show! Oh, your videos are always fantastic. I really love the extra layers that adding mash-up songs creates. (Boulevard Of Broken Songs comes to mind.) Definitely saving for future viewings :D

I saw you posted a vid and I went, "Oh no, dare I look?" simply because you are amazing and my vid muse has been MIA on me lately. :( But I dared look, ;) and...

Anyway editing! Dood. You always do so awesome with that. Love all the intercutting and quick cuts and stuff. But I especially really loved the crossfades at 1:40. The motion and the way they blend together is just... stunning. LOVE!!! \o/ And how you matched up all of Alex's CRAZYTIEMS to the screams, that gave me chills!! O.o

FANTABULOUSO job as always, jirl! X)

Aw, never fear when dl-ing mah vids, woman! This one was just a fun thing I started ages ago but sort of lost the muse in the middle of it. I just finally got my act together after a recharge and finished it. But yeah, I totes getcha on the whole vid muse IMA issue. :/

Whee! Glad you liked it. :) The rap was very mild and fun-ish so I deemed it usable. And I cut off the bits that were unusable, lol. The song goes on for a bit. Heh. But the Beatles stuff is the best anyway. And yeah, I think mash-up vidding is my fave. It's SUPER HARD to find the perfect song, but when it clicks, it CLICKS. So I say do it. :)

Anyway so glad you liked it, yo! It's always good to hear from ya. ;) And this is like the first time I did Divx cuz I had a 15 day trial thingo for a converter. But I feel like it's kinda pointless for me because all my clips are compressed anyway, so it only made it looks a wee bit better. Methinks I'm too lazy to change up my whole system of vidding. Bah.

Your kung fu is the best. I think the song works great and I love the part where the lyric is "Oh" and Clown!Daddy sprawls over the car's hood. I also thought the part towards the end where you blended the times the camera spins around Alex with the time it went around Sam and the roof statue (which still creeps me out whenever I see it) and then the bit right after with Gene and Alex is fantastic. I guess I just really like that whole section that starts with Gene carrying in young and then adult Alex and ends where you synced the screaming in the song with Alex's screams. It's really just flawless.

OH! And I liked that you put the images of Molly and Shaz in jeopardy to those opening little girl lyrics. It was like you were providing evidence for the theory even when you probably weren't trying to.

I love that you included Sam in your little vid story. It would be easy to overlook his involvement in Alex's tale, but he really is a kind of catalyst for her journey down the rabbit hole.

Not gonna lie, fave part is probably Gene's. haha. All the clips of him ogling Alex and her ample cleavage and bum. Oh, Gene! Accompanied by Ludacris no less! :) And juxtaposition between his doggish ways and his knight in shining armor side is a nice touch.

COULD THIS BE ANY MORE PERFECT? I THINK NOT. 2:05 and on is pretty much perfection. Now I know why you got such inspiration for the vid from that bit of lyric. Amazing.

OH GOD. Creepy Tim/Clown mixed with that music is, well, CREEPY. And the wink to end it all...? CREEPY. Fantastic creepy. :D The pacing is spot on as well!

Sam was a very important little guy in Alex's life. I'm quite obsessed with their early association. Dunno if you read this fic, but it sort of fulfilled my desires for exploring the whole Alex/Sam therapy thing.

Heeeee! Yeah, the fact that Gene's section referenced Cinnabun was an extra bonus I think. I really wanted a damn Cinnabun after editing this thing! :P

Just wonderful! The song was so great and I loved the subject of the men out to get Alex. Fav bit was making the two screams fit with Alex screams and with the first "I hate you so much fight now' aligned with Gene shouting. Awesome!

That was amazing, I loved it! The zoom out on Sam's face at 00:16 was really effective, same with the clown popping into the courtroom (at least, I think that was a mask effect). And the screaming of Alex fitting in with the music at the end.

It was hard to feel sorry for Alex sometimes during the show but in this vid I could feel sympathy for her, as she really has been jerked around by the men in her life.

Liked the song choice, even though I haven't heard this particular Beatles song before (shows just how young I am, huh) and the vulgarity of Gene's section of it matched well with his character.

Whoo! Thanks. :D I'm really thrilled that you pointed out that zoom out on Sam's face, I love bridging LoM with A2A because it's important to keep that fluidity between the shows, so they feel like one being which I've found people sometimes tend to forget.

The clown in the courtroom (I heart that clown so much) wasn't really a mask as much as it was convenient layering. But I thought it would be cool to show both sides of Tim in the same shot. Glad you liked it. :)

It's very true that a whole lotta folks tended to harsh on Alex throughout the show and they certainly had cause. I mean her attitude was entirely opposite Sam's. She wasn't crying about it like Sam, she thought she knew exactly what was going on and what would make her snap out of it. I felt sorry for her from early on because I could tell that she would suffer a great burn at the end of the season, and certainly what happened in ep 8 was something she was NOT prepared for. But I'm glad you found some sympathy for her in the end as well. She's a good girl. ;)

Oh that's quite all right. Technically speaking they were covers which sounds entirely different from originals. If you're curious the two songs are "Grirl" and "Run For Your Life." :)

Ohhhhhh sooooooooo goooooooooood! (So very good, in fact, it required extra letters in all of the words! ;) )

The editing is just completely flawless and the song choice is awesome! I've seen mash-ups kinda get away from a vidder before and over-power the vid so that you're not watching and going, "Oh, cool vid!" but rather listening and thinking, "Hey, cool song." And this was SO not the case here. You had the song bent completely to serve the vid, like it was made for it instead of the other way around! \o/

Long!run-on!sentence is long and run-on, sorry. :( ;)

Anyway, I loved how you matched each of the sections to the characters. Worked very, very well! Gene's is probably my favorite just because I ♥ him, cad in shining armor that he is, lol! ;) But they were all just fantastic. Alex's screams at the end, timed with the screams in the song actually gave me goosebumps in that "ZOMG, awesome editing!" way! :D ;)

I'm definitely downloading to keep and watch over and over! *applause, throws flowers* ♥!

What you said means SO MUCH, really. I think I've seen those mash-ups you mentioned and partially it was the reason I started vidding them. I just felt that the song wasn't utilized properly, and I think it all has to do with what you said, about how they can overpower the vid. Haha, I don't know whether to be shocked about that Beatles cover song or amazed by the awesomeness of that video.
I chose the latter. Again, this was brilliant. There's always something special about your videos, always this glimpse of TEH SPECIAL.
It's hard to describe, but just let me say it like this:
I loved, loved, loved this! SO much.
Heh, but all in all I thought the video was quite fun, especially the ending part. Haha, I thought it was brilliant when Gene said "I hate!" and Alex going "AHH" at the very end. Haha, awesome.
